As soon as you walk in the owner greets you (and remembers you if you have been there before). The drinks are stellar, yes STELLAR! I only recommend the Volcano or the Scorpion if you are there with at least one other person. They are served in a giant tiki bowl, the Volcano arrives on fire. You get extra long straws so you can sit back and get drunk in the comfort of your booth. We got Don’s mom toasted a couple weeks ago…good fun! And as stated earlier, the food is fantastic. So why isn’t Mandarin House completely packed every night? Well, because people like me who know about the place are very tight lipped about it. Everyone else thinks it is a restaurant that probably closed down in the 70s and has been vacant ever since. Well it’s not. And yes I do fear that the yuppie scum that took over the Gaslamp and Little Italy will find out but they are probably too busy working out at the gym or whatever to bother reading my blog. So for the 3 of you who actually do read my blog, I give Mandarin House 6 out of 5 stars.
Good food is here

I bet you never thought it was possible to kill a plastic plant
