Has anyone seen Cal lately?
Any kid growning up in Southern California in the 70s will remember Cal Worthington & his dog Spot. He was a car dealer who made a lot of commercials with "his dog spot". But Spot was always a different animal: tiger, elephant, goat, even a whale.
He had a fiercely catchy tune "Go See Cal, Go See Cal, Go See Cal!" My version of his jingle would get stuck in my head for days on end. I found out much later on that I wasn't the only one who didn't quite understand what he was saying. Apparently, quite a few of us kids thought he was saying "Pussy Cow Pussy cow Pussy Cow".
If you need a car or truck PUSSY COW, If you wanna save a buck PUSSY COW!
He was great, even if I didn't know what the heck he was saying. I have seen his commercials within the past couple years. I have no idea if Cal is alive or not because in the commercials he still wears these 70's polyester cowboy-esque suits. It quite possible that he has gone to the big dealership in the sky and they are now superimposing him onto their current car lots.
I did a little bit of searching and found an archive of his old commercials. www.mydogspot.com There is even a 2 1/2 minute version of the Go See Cal song.
Does anyone know if Cal is still selling cars? I considered calling up
one of his dealerships and asking but what if they tell me he's dead, it could ruin my whole weekend. : O
